In December 2018 we set out on an adventure with Holland America Line to experience the Nieuw Amsterdam ship. As colleagues in our travel agency, it’s our job is to be informed as to what our clients would like to experience. The options are endless – it’s a great big world out there.
This is small ship cruising, not the mega cruise ships. This small premium line has very few lines and everyone can find a seat. Take a look at our ship compared to the Symphony of the Seas across the harbor.
My first thought was… “oh goodness, it’s a baby ship.” With that said, we didn’t get sea sick and didn’t feel like we were on a small ship.
We have never experienced the ease of embarkation like we did with HAL. It was the easiest and smoothest experience ever – and we literally walked right onto the ship.
There was no waiting in line, waiting for your number to be called, and no crowds!
I love that they offer us lemonade, tea and cookies before we embark the ship. Making us feel welcomed and appreciated.
Smiles everyone, smiles. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. There is much to enjoy on board this ship. Below are a few photos of what to expect on your voyage.
The Crow’s nest was a popular place with the floor to ceiling windows, game tables, books, wonderful specialty coffees (added cost), and every evening at 5 pm was happy hour – BOGO drinks and canapes. And, even a place for work if need be.
There is so much to love about this ship and this cruise line. Too much to put in one single post, so take a look at the other posts of our experience on the Nieuw Amsterdam which sailed the Eastern Caribbean: Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Thomas, and Half Moon Cay.
We experienced it ALL. From America’s Test Kitchen, to BB King’s Jazz, Lincoln Center Stage, BBC Earth, Entertainment, learning computer skills, longer stays in port, and even religious services. It was a wonderful experience and one I would highly recommend if you are the type of person who has moved beyond water slides and rock walls.
Until next time…
