While visiting Sandals Resorts in Ocho Rios, Jamaica we were fortunate to have attended Mass at the nearby Catholic church, Our Lady of Fatima. I was surprised to learn after the Mass that it was set up specifically at our request. They hadn’t intended on having Mass this day. What a treat!
Our Lady of Fatima is only 1.4 km from Sandals Ochi Beach resort which by car is about 5 mins away. You can set up a driver at the Sandals Concierge desk the evening prior and they will call a car for you. The car service is an extra charge, and don’t forget to tip your driver as they are always most concerned for your care and safety.
This simple but lovely church is part of the Diocese of Montego Bay. According to their Facebook page their mission is:
“A community of disciples of Jesus; we are a Catholic community called to proclaim, to reflect on, and to live the Gospel.”
This church has a beautiful view as it’s right by the sea. Due to the light coming in the windows of the chapel I wasn’t able to get a good photo of the view while standing back, however I did snap the photo below through the front window. Notice that, yes, the windows are open and we could feel the breeze. There wasn’t air conditioning when we visited in December and it was fine.
This was a lovely service and set the day on the right footing. The Priest was kind enough to have Mass when it wasn’t scheduled simply because we requested it. We attended Mass with another couple from the resort so don’t be shy to inquire if anyone else is attending chapel on Sunday or the Saturday Vigil.
Below is the song that has stayed with me in my memories. There was the sweetest elderly lady singing long and loud to this lovely hymn. She made everyone smile.
On your next visit to Ocho Rios I hope you will make a point to attend Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and share in the love of Jesus with the locals. What a precious memory.
Until next time…
