Don’t you just love it when it’s all included? We sure do! We love paying one price and not having constantly whip out our credit card or cash. This is one of the reasons we love visiting Sandals Resorts, because your round trip transfers are included. No, not an add-on cost like some other resorts; it’s included in the price quoted from the very beginning.
After clearing customs of the country you are visiting, then you will check in with the Sandals staff, either that the Sandals lounge or desk marked with the Sandals sign. When you transfer is ready then they will direct you to the shuttle bus which looks like the one above. In Jamaica this transfer is simply known as – the JUTA (Jamaican Union of Travelers Association).
You will have to identify your luggage before boarding the bus, and are asked to refrain from boarding the shuttle until you have done so. #noluggageleftbehind
If you’re the last to board then chances are you will get these two lovely seats in the back of the shuttle near the luggage. These are the seats you most likely don’t want if you are on a long winding road – such as in St. Lucia or South Coast. It can make you a wee bit nauseated. Although, sitting in the far back means that you have a good view of the entire shuttle.
Personally, I like to sit up front if possible so I can see where we are going and view the sights of the town – and I’m less “affected” by the ride in the back. This is photo above is of downtown Castries, St. Lucia.
If you are booked in a Club level or Butler level room and you’re visiting Sandals Royal Caribbean or Sandals Montego Bay then you will have private round trip transfers in a luxury BMW sedan included instead of the shuttle bus. Sweet!
Perhaps you prefer a more romantic ride of a private car service rather than the shared transfer of the shuttle bus, then this is easily arranged. There is an added fee for this service, but it is nice to set the vacation on the right footing. The over-the-water bungalows also receive this service regardless of the resort location – there are currently three resorts with over-the-water bungalows and villas: two in Jamaica and one in St. Lucia.
If you aren’t able to swing the cost of the round trip private transfers, then I recommend you reserve the private transfer one-way on arrival and take the shared shuttle on the departure. This is especially true if your trip is a special occasion such as a honeymoon or anniversary. The private car service also comes with added amenities of beverages, snacks and WiFi. This varies from country to country. Best of all the ride is on your time, so if you have to make a stop then you make a stop without the worry of inconveniencing anyone else.
Below are some photos of our transfer from Hewanorra International airport in St. Lucia to the Grand St. Lucian.
Until next time…
